Softball: Woodgrove Takes Dulles District Tournament Title, 1-0, Over Briar Woods on Vennitti's 3-Hit Shutout

Purcellville (May 25, 2013) - Woodgrove High School junior Corinne Vennitti threw a 3-hit shutout and senior Taylor Kilgour drove in the game's only run as the Wolverines added the Dulles District softball tournament title to their regular-season crown with a 1-0 win over Briar Woods Friday in blustery conditions.

Woodgrove will host the winner of Monday's Loudoun County vs. James Wood game in a quarterfinal on Tuesday. Briar Woods is on the road Tuesday at Skyline in a quarterfinal.


Briar Woods senior Casey Forbes had all three Falcons hits but her team couldn't push any runs across the plate.

Woodgrove scored in the second inning when freshman Adriana Erickson dropped a single into right field to open the inning against Falcon starter sophomore Madison Goodman. Courtesy runner, junior Edka Wong, then moved to second on a sacrifice by senior Delanie Daughtry and with two outs, she scored on Kilgour's single to center.

Briar Woods sophomore Kayla Brennan pitched the final four scoreless innings for the Falcons.

Owen Gotimer just completed his freshman year at Syracuse University and is a graduate of Heritage High School in Leesburg
