Breaking News: Shooting at Costco in Sterling Leaves Woman Dead, Deputy Wounded

(May 29, 2013) - According to local media reports there was a shooting at Costco in Sterling this afternoon and among the two wounded is a Loudoun County Sheriff's deputy. We are following this breaking story and will update it as information becomes available.

4:07 p.m.: Loudoun County Sheriff's released this statement: The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that just occurred at the Costco in Sterling. The area is contained and secure at this time. An investigation is underway.

5:02 p.m.: WTOP is reporting that a woman is dead from today's incident that started out as a disorderly conduct call. A deputy has been wounded and is being treated.

5:05 p.m.: Washington Post is reporting that the woman killed worked in food preparation at the Costco in Sterling.

5:10 p.m.: Leesburg Today story has an assistant manager at Costco calling the woman at the center of the shooting a "customer demonstration services provider". Article also says wounded deputy was on cell phone while being taken out on stretcher, which would be great news.

5:15 p.m. WJLA is reporting that the woman killed was brandishing a knife and that deputies attemped to "Taser" her before shooting her.

5:19 p.m. NBC News4 is reporting that all shots fired were by one deputy and that the deputy wounded was shot in the leg during the altercation.
