Stone Bridge was kept in the Liberty District second round match-up by seven strong innings from sophomore ace J.B. Bukauskas, who struck out 10 with one walk and five hits and two earned runs, and senior Ty Percherke shut the door with a 1-2-3 8th inning against the Rebels 2-3-4 hitters.
Stone Bridge earned a shot at district rival Madison, the top seed, Friday night at 5 p.m. in a district semifinal game at McLean High School.
The game was exciting from the first pitch as Stone Bridge recorded four straight hits to lead off the game (three singles by Kyle Palmer, Dave Mocabee, and Jake Kuzbel and a double by Ty Percherke) and ended the inning with 6 hits and a 4-0 lead. A very tough Fairfax team responded in the bottom of the first and second innings with 2 runs in each by recording four hits off of Bukauskas. The game settled down from the 3rd inning on with both pitchers keeping the opposing offenses in check through 7 full innings and the game still tied 4-4.
In the top of the 8th inning, sophomore Tanner Karafa started the Stone Bridge rally with a two out walk. His walk was followed up with a double by senior Aidan Donovan that put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Then, after Fairfax brought in their lefty closer, Hough crushed the second pitch he saw off of the centerfield fence plating 2 runs for the 6-4 lead. From there, Percherke pitched a flawless eighth inning to lock down the save and win.
