Basketball: Cedar Run District Quarterfinal Highlights Include Broad Run's Ferguson's 1,000 Point Milestone; Freedom's Hawkins Drops 31

(Feb. 6, 2013) - Broad Run High School senior Ellie Ferguson became the fifth player in Spartans girls basketball history to reach the 1,000-point career milestone as she scored 15 points Tuesday to help Broad Run beat Freedom, 53-43, and advance to tonight's AAA Cedar Run District semifinals.

In boys action, Freedom High School senior Darren Hawkins scored a season-high 31 points to lead the Eagles past Osbourn, 58-38, and into the Cedar Run semifinals. Broad Run boys had their season end with a 78-71 loss at Patriot.

Tonight, the Broad Run girls play at No. 1 seed Stonewall Jackson and the Freedom boys are at Battlefield. The other match-ups are the Osbourn girls at Battlefield and the Patriot boys at Stonewall Jackson.

Broad Run senior Ellie Ferguson became the 5th player in Lady Spartans history to score her 1,000th career point as BR advanced to the Cedar Run semifinals with a 53-43 win over Freedom. Ferguson finished with 15 points, and freshman Mariah Leonard added a game-high 18 points and a career-high 27 rebounds. Alyssa Cabellos added 12 points, and junior Taylor Tashjian put up a career-high 5 blocks.
