South Riding (Feb. 12, 2013) - After official approval at tonight's Loudoun County School Board meeting, Freedom High School will unveil their new football coach, Jared Van Acker, in a meeting with athletes in the school's auditorium on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m.
Van Acker, who comes to Freedom after three years as head coach at Grafton High School in Yorktown, Va. and three years at Galax High School in southwestern Virginia, will also attend a meet-and-greet with his family on Saturday Feb. 16 between noon and 1:30 p.m. at Glory Days in Stone Ridge.

He is also a social studies teacher.
Van Acker replaces Mick Mullins who stepped down after the fall season. Mullins went 10-30 in four seasons in South Riding, including 3-7 in 2012.
Van Acker was raised in Geneseo, Illinois where he played middle linebacker on the 1999 team that finished state runner-up. He then played at NCAA Division II Quincy University in Illinois where he dealt with a knee injury.
His first coaching job in Virginia was as the defensive coordinator at Division 1 William Campbell where he helped the school win the 2005 state title with an 18-0 shutout over J.I. Burton.
In 2007, Van Acker took over as the head coach at Galax, where he installed the spread wing-t offense and went 11-19 in three years. In 2010 he took over at Grafton and the school won eight games -- doubled from the previous year -- and made the playoffs. He earned Bay Rivers District Coach of the Year honors after that first season.
In his second season at Grafton he took the Clippers all the way to the state semifinals before running into Briar Woods. The Falcons beat the Clippers 31-0 en route to the second of three straight state titles.
Van Acker lectures at coaching clinics on installing the hybrid spread wing-t offense and among his publications is an article in American Football Monthly on the "Loco" spread punt formation which includes seven fakes or a punt.
Van Acker has a young son named Caleb and he and his wife are expecting a second child in early March, according to an article by Mary O'Brien on HRVarsity.com.
