Wrestling: Potomac Falls to Host "Falls for the Fallen" on Jan. 3 to Raise Funds for Doug Green Memorial Garden

Potomac Falls (Dec. 30, 2012) - The Potomac Falls High School wrestling program will host a Dulles District match on Thursday Jan. 3, 2013 against Heritage and Briar Woods. The Panthers wrestlers have chosen to use this event as an opportunity to raise money for the cause of remembering Potomac Falls alumni Douglas J. Green (‘06), who was killed in action in Afghanistan in August of 2011.


Green was a well-respected, well-liked and well-rounded member of the Potomac Falls community. He played varsity lacrosse, freshman football and was the president of the Unity club. When Doug was killed, he became the third Loudoun County Public Schools graduate to die in the war in Afghanistan. 

While he served his country, he represented with pride not just Potomac Falls, but Loudoun County. In this spirit, the team is hoping that all spectators at this match will be willing to make a donation to the cause of creating a garden in Doug Green Memorial Garden. The garden, which will be located at the front of the building near the stadium, was dedicated on Veteran’s Day of 2012.

Spectators (and in fact anyone who wishes to participate, even if unable to attend) can make a pledge to donate a sum of money based on the number of pins (or ‘falls’) registered by their team. In addition, former PFHS wrestling coach Mike Grafton of the Grafton Group (specializing in home mortgages) will MATCH all donations up to $1,000, so contributors can actually double their donation.

Checks should be made out to PFHS with DJ Green Foundation/Wrestling in the memo. All Donations will be recorded and the patron’s names reported to the DJ Green Memorial Foundation.

The dual matches begin at 6 p.m. Thursday Jan. 3, 2013 at Potomac Falls in Sterling, 46400 Algonkian Drive.
