Golf: Briar Woods Grad Nicole Flores Wins MAPGA Junior Tour Title

(Aug. 16, 2012) - Briar Woods High School grad Nicole Flores of Brambleton won the 2012 Middle Atlantic Professional Golfers’ Association (MAPGA) Junior Tour Championship in the girls' 15-18 age group.

Flores shot a 6 over par 150 to win the 36 hole championship by 4 strokes over her nearest competitor. The tournament was played August 9 and 10 on the challenging Woods Course at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.


In an extremely competitive field, Flores had to overcome a 5 stroke deficit heading into the final nine holes. This was Flores' fourth win on the 2012 MAPGA Junior Tour, and earned her the MAPGA ”Player of the Year” honors.

Flores was the runner-up in the girls' 15-18 age group in the MAPGA 2012 Nordlinger Cup at Mount Vernon Country Club on August 13.

Flores is a 2012 graduate of Briar Woods High School, where she lettered in varsity golf for 3 years, and was a team captain and Most Valuable Player for the squad her senior year. She was the first female member of the Briar Woods golf team to compete in the Virginia State Girls’ Golf Championship, qualifying three years in a row.

She graduated 10th in a class of 350 and will attend the University of Southern California this fall, majoring in writing for the screen and television in the School of Cinematic Arts.
