(Aug. 1, 2012) - Woodgrove High School's Erin Barrett has been named the Virginia High School Coaches Association's AA Girls Soccer Coach of the Year after leading the Wolverines to the state title in June.
Woodgrove defender Lucy Etro was named first team as was Dominion forward Maria Pinkston. Loudoun County, which finished runner-up to Woodgrove in the state tournament, had three first team selections: forward Shauna Kain, defender Alana Mackey and keeper Kelsey Slack.

Who picks these teams? And what criteria do they use? It is hard to believe that Woodgrove is represented by only one player on the 1st or 2nd team, when LCHS had three players chosen. Woodgrove defeated LCHS in 5 meetings this year which included the State Championship game. Also, Woodgrove outscored LCHS 11 to 1 over the course of those 5 games. Shouldnt a players performance, whether good or bad, against the top ranked teams be considered when evaluating a players abilities against the rest of the field? I would argue that Woodgrove is definately underrepresented on the AA All-State Girls Soccer Teams.
