News: Redskins Running Back Tim Hightower, Teammates Visited Steuart W. Weller Elementary School to Give $10K NFL Play 60 Grant

Ashburn (Nov. 1, 2011) - Washington Redskins running back Tim Hightower and his mom, Nikkie, as well as fullback Darrel Young and running backs Roy Helu and Ryan Torain visited Steuart W. Weller Elementary School Tuesday to present a $10,000 NFL PLAY 60 grant for health and wellness programming or equipment.


Hightower visited the office of Principal Janet Platenberg and then spoke to students about the importance of good health. With the help of his Redskins teammates, Hightower led students in fitness activities in the “Ultimate NFL Physical Education Class” as part of NFL’s PLAY 60 campaign to help kids get 60 minutes of exercise a day.

Nikkie Hightower presented the Procter & Gamble P&G Super Parents award. The P&G Super Parents award recipients receive a check for $1,000 in their name to support the school’s athletic department.

The “NFL PLAY 60 Super School” program focuses on inspiring students to make healthy choices.

The winning schools entered the Back to Football Friday contest at www.NFLRUSH.com/BackToFootball. The contest encouraged students to demonstrate their passion for their favorite NFL teams and their excitement for the upcoming 2011 season by planning a unique Back to Football Friday event for their school, all to support youth health and wellness.

Schools that entered the Back to Football Friday contest submitted photos of their event and answered brief essay questions. Thirty-four winning schools were selected as “NFL PLAY 60 Super Schools,” one in each of the 32 NFL markets and two at-large winners.
