Girls Soccer: Stone Bridge Girls Crush Cosby, 4-0, to Win AAA State Title

(June 13, 2010) - The Stone Bridge High School girls soccer team crushed Cosby, 4-0, on Saturday with freshman Ashley Herndon adding two more goals to her record-breaking season. The win ended an undefeated run for the 21-0-2 Bulldogs and was the school's second state title, adding to a AA crown captured in 2005.

Despite controlling the first half, Stone Bridge led Cosby just 1-0 on an own goal in the 29th minute but all that changed just 22 seconds into the second half as Herndon scored off a great Murielle Tiernan feed. When Herndon scored four minutes later it was basically all over.


Herndon's second goal came off a Jazmyn Ervins pass and gave the SB freshman a school record 29 goals on the season, including 14 in postseason.

Senior Sara Bowers added the final goal in the 63rd minute unassisted as she finished off her own shot.

SB keeper Julia Harmison made four saves for the shutout, the 14th of the season for the stingy Stone Bridge defense.
