College Corner: Batter Up with Broad Run Baseball Grads

(April 16, 2012) - Broad Run High School baseball coach Pat Cassidy, has been keeping VivaLoudoun up to date on his grads. Below is a little snack of their accomplishments at the start of April

Cole Shain - William and Mary - Shain is currently 2-2 for the Tribe on the mound this season.  In 5 starts and 2 relief outings, he has thrown 28 innings with 16 K's and only 4 BB's.  Last week, Shain picked up his second win of the year at George Mason.  Currently, his ERA is 3.86.

Shane Vlasic - RHP - UMBC - Vlasic is 2-2 on the mound for the Retrievers.  He has struck out 13 batters in 33 innings pitched.  His ERA is currently 4.91.  Last week he picked up his second win of the year at Mt. St. Mary's.

Taylor Clarke - RHP - Towson - Clarke is 1-2 on the season.  He has struck out 27 batters in 32 innings pitched.  His ERA's is 3.58.  Last weekend, he threw his first complete game...a 2-1 loss at the University of Delaware.

Zach Rawson had four hits on the weekend

Zach Rawson - OF - St. Peter's College (NJ) - Rawson has started in 14 games this spring season for the Peacocks.  He has 13 hits in the 18 games he has appeared in for a .271 batting average.

Tommy Meier - Catcher - UVA's College at Wise - Meier is the only player to start all 30 contests for this season for the Cavs.  He currently leads the team offensively with a .364 batting average.

College Corner: Potomac Falls Grad Aaron Sweger Player of The Week for Virginia Tech Club Baseball

(March 27, 2012) - Potomac Falls High School grad Aaron Sweger was named Player of the Week for Virginia Tech's Club baseball team earlier this month.  
Sweger had lots of swagger at the plate down in Tampa for the Sprint Training showcase. In 2 games he went 4-7 with 12B, 1 HR, 5 RBI's and 3 Runs against some tough pitching.

College Corner: Stone Bridge grad Johny Bladel Named to Preseason All-CAA Baseball Team

(Feb 24, 2012) - Stone Bridge High School grad Johny Bladel, a junior pitcher and outfielder for NCAA Division I James Madison University (JMU) Dukes, has been named to the 2012 Preseason All Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Team.

As a sophomore, Bladel was named American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) First Team All-East Region, Second Team All-CAA, and First Team All-State.

College Corner: Heritage Grad Kevin Burke Finds Dream Job with the Corvallis Knights

(Dec 8, 2011) - Heritage grad Kevin Burke is the new play-by-play broadcast announcer for the Corvallis Knights. The Knights are a collegiate summer baseball team located in Oregon. Kevin is a senior at Virginia Tech and will graduate with a BA in communications.  Here are some neat facts about Kevin AT A GLANCE:

HOMETOWN: Leesburg, Va.

AGE: 21; turns 22 in February

EDUCATION: Senior at Virginia Tech; will graduate in May with a BA in communication (electric print and journalism option) and a minor in professional writing. Graduated from Heritage High School in Leesburg in 2008.
