Crew: Stone Bridge's Lashlee to Row at Clemson

(April 20, 2103) - Stone Bridge High School senior Danielle (Dani) Lashlee recently signed her Letter of Intent to row for the Clemson University Crew Team. Lashlee has rowed for the Stone Bridge Rowing Club for two years. Stone Bridge is coached by Head Coach Kevin Suter.

Lashlee has also competed as a varsity gymnast and varsity competitive cheerleader for the Bulldogs. She intends to study to become a physical therapist at Clemson.

(Sept. 6, 2012) - Loudoun Valley High School graduate Rob Jones and his rowing partner, Oksana Masters, won a bronze medal in mixed double sculls Sunday at the Paralympics in London, edging Britain’s Nicholas Beighton and Samantha Scowen by 0.21 seconds.

College Corner: Briar Woods Grad Gorick Makes MIT Varsity 8 as Freshman

(Aug. 2, 2012) - Briar Woods High School grad Catherine Gorick may have been known more for her lacrosse and basketball skills here in Loudoun but she made a splash on the MIT crew team her freshman year where she helped the women's lightweight crew varsity 8 team to a successful season.

Gorick, majoring in brain and cognitive sciences, rowed in the novice 8 at the start of the season but finished in the three seat for the varsity 8 at the Dad Vail Regatta, EAWRC Spring and IRA national championships.

Crew: Stone Bridge Crew Collecting the Medals

(May 10, 2012) - The Stone Bridge High School crew program is not even a year old and the Bulldogs are already collecting medals.

Coached by Kevin Suter and Jim Zeller, both Marietta College crew alumni and masters rowers, Stone Bridge raced over the weekend in the Washington Metro Interscholastic Rowing Association (WMIRA) Novice Championship Regatta on the Potomac River. The Bulldogs came away with three second place finishes and two firsts. Both the Girls Novice 8 and the Boys Novice 8 came form behind to win their respective races.

Ashburn (May 3, 2012) - Just off Belmont Ridge Road, there is a little known gravel road that leads to Beaver Dam Reservoir and this is where 60+ Briar Woods high school students meet each day to train for crew team.

Leesburg (Feb. 27, 2012) - Loudoun County High School, under the guidance of former Syracuse University crew captain and master rower, Dr. Pete Hilgartner, has followed in the wake of Briar Woods and Stone Bridge and formed a crew club.

30 Raider students have paid $450 each to purchase boats and equipment and are currently in the process of hiring coaches. The students recently cleared land at Beaver Dam Rservoir for a launch site and the the club is purchasing boats, oars and safety equipment from colleges and other clubs up and down the east coast.
