College Corner: Loudoun County Track Grads Do Well -- CNU's Showalter Quaulifies for Junior Nationals in Steeple Chase; Tech's Curtin Wins ACC 5,000 Meters

(April 22, 2013) - Loudoun County High School track and field coach Courtney Campbell reports that former Raiders are doing great in college this spring with Josh Showalter, a freshman at Christopher Newport, qualifying for Junior Nationals in the steeple chase and Tommy Curtin, a sophomore, at Virginia Tech, coming from behind to win the ACC outdoor 5,000 meters with his fist sub-14 time at 13:57. Curtin also won the ACC 5,000 meters indoor title in the winter.

Cross Country: Loudoun County's Curtin Commits to Run at Virginia Tech

(Jan. 7, 2010) - The top cross country boys athlete in the Dulles District, Loudoun County's Tommy Curtin, has committed to run for the NCAA Division I cross country and track programs at Virginia Tech starting next fall.

Curtin was runner-up in the AA state meet in 2009 and took third this past season running a 15:38 as he helped his team place third in the meet as well.

Curtin also captured back-to-back Dulles District and Region II titles.

Cross Country: Curtin Repeats as Region II Boys Champion, Potomac Falls and Loudoun County Advance to States

Winchester (Nov. 5, 2010) - Loudoun County High School senior Tommy Curtin repeated as the Region II boys cross country champion Thursday with a 16:09 winning time at the Kernstown Battlefield. Both the Potomac Falls and Loudoun County squads advanced to the AA state meet.

Curtin finished three seconds ahead of Derek Armstrong of Western Albemarle, which won the team title with 53 points. Potomac Falls, led by seniors Connor Wilson (5th, 16:36) and Juan Campos (6th, 16:37) took second with 87 points.

The Raiders, thanks to Curtin and sophomore Patrick Joseph (13th, 16:59), took third with 105 points. Freedom finished the season with a sixth place finish at 148 points with junior Thorpe Lichtenberg moving on as an individual after taking 9th at 16:41.

Broad Run was 10th at 225.

Cross Country: Potomac Falls Boys Take Third in AA State Meet, LC's Curtin Finishes Runner-up

The Plains (Nov. 14, 2009) - The Potomac Falls High School boys cross country team finished third Saturday at the VHSL AA state meet held on a muddy Great Meadows course. Loudoun County junior Tommy Curtin crowned his incredible season with a runner-up finish, just three seconds from a state title.

Potomac Falls scored 134 points to finish just behind runner-up Spotswood (131) with Blacksburg running away with the meet with 51 total.

Curtin ran a 16:04 to take second behind Grafton  junior Kyle King who ran 16:01.

Junior Juan Campos led PF with a 16:45 for a 16th overall finish (and scoring 12 points in the team competition). Junior Nichoal Mogensen was next at 17:11 followed by senior Christopher Johnson (17:20), senior Alvaro Morales (17:24), junior Patrick Wilson (17:27), senior Michael Volaric (17:27) and senior Rennix Offutt (17:49).

Freedom sophomore Thorpe Lichtenburg took 19th overall with a 16:55.
