Equestrian: Briar Woods Takes Solid 9th in First Ever Competition

(Jan. 12, 2012) - The Briar Woods High School club equestrian team, Loudoun's first such public high school to have a team, placed a solid ninth out of 15 teams in their first ever show, the Pickwick-Clay Hill show held over the weekend in Maryland.

The Falcons finish is impressive considering many of the teams they faced have been together and competing since September.

Equestrian: Briar Woods, Area's First Public High School with Club Team, Opens Season This Weekend

(Jan. 6, 2011) - The Briar Woods High School equestrian team, the area's first such public high school fielded team, will compete in its first ever show this weekend as they participate in a IEA Zone 3 competition Jan. 7-8 at Pickwick Stables in Sykesville, Md.

The Falcons are coached by Michael Bertozzi of Cavallo Farms and they are a member of the IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association).

Sophomore Kayla Shroyer is the team captain. Other team members include: Erin Sinski, Kelli Burns, Sydney Wayne, Shivani Ghulati, Brigid Emanuel, Emily Murphy, Lindsay Dennis, and Caitlyn Shira.

Equestrian: Worsham Takes Reigns of Foxcroft's Fabled Program

Middleburg (Oct. 28, 2011) – Kate Worsham, who spent the past seven years as riding director at Oldfields School in Maryland, became Director of Riding at Foxcroft School, effective in July. A graduate of Washington and Lee University, she brings 20-plus years of competitive riding and training experience and an extensive teaching career to Foxcroft’s historic riding program.

Worsham succeeds Nelly Sheehan, who received the School’s highest honor – the Anne Kane McGuire Award – in April in recognition of her outstanding service and dedication during 20+ years as director.

News: Equestrian Ring at Franklin Park to Hold Grand Opening Saturday

(Sept. 28, 2010) - The Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, the Loudoun Horse Association, Tri State Riding Club and US Trail Ride, Inc. have teamed up for the grand opening of the Equestrian Ring at Franklin Park in Purcellville on Saturday, Oct. 2.

The public is invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 4 p.m. at Franklin Park, 17501 Franklin Park Drive, Purcellville.

Varied equestrian disciplines and refreshments will be featured after the ceremony.
