News: Thieves Strike Gold in Loudoun! Sheriff's Office to Hold Community Meeting in Response to Burglaries Targeting Gold in Lansdowne/Ashburn/South Riding

(March 1, 2013) - The Loudoun County Sheriff'€™s Office will hold a community meeting to discuss recent burglaries in the Lansdowne and Dulles South areas and will also review crime prevention measures and establishing a Neighborhood Watch program. 

The meeting is in response to a series of burglaries that are apparently targeting gold. Since December 2012, there have been seven burglaries in the area that are likely connected. In most of the cases the suspect(s) entered through a rear door or window while the residents were not at home. 

The meeting will be held on Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in the library of the Liberty Elementary School located at 25491 South Riding Center Drive in South Riding, VA. 

The first burglary was reported at a home on Dec. 1 at a home on Lecroy Circle in the Lansdowne area. The home was entered while no one was inside and cash was taken. A similar burglary was reported that same day in the 43800 block of Riverpoint Drive. In that case a laptop, jewelry and a camera were taken. 

On Dec. 7 a home in the 20600 block of Rainsboro Drive in Ashburn was entered and jewelry, cash and jewelry were taken. Also on Dec. 7 a home on Queensbridge Drive in Brambleton was entered and a brief case was taken. The burglaries continued in 2013 when on Feb.y 9th a home was entered in the 42000 block of Porch Light Drive where a home was entered and jewelry was taken. Another burglary was reported on Feb. 9 on Camerons Point Court. Nothing was reported taken from the home in that case. 

The most recent burglary occurred on Feb. 15 where a home on Freeport Place was entered and jewelry was again targeted. The Loudoun County Sheriff'€™s Office reminds residents to report any suspicious behavior, vehicles or persons by calling their 24-hour-non-emergency phone number at 703-777-1021. Residents are reminded to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
