Also on Wednesday, Potomac Falls senior Greg Graves reached the 1,000-point career scoring mark as he scored 32 points with 15 rebounds as the Panthers finished on a 15-0 run to beat Broad Run, 66-53. Graves has an amazing 700 career rebounds as well!
McCarter's record-breaking and Graves' milestone are not alone as Loudoun County junior Michael Anderson set the Raiders single-game scoring record on Monday night with 43 points in a 76-65 win over Park View. And earlier in the season, Loudoun Valley senior John Yoxthimer broke a Viking school mark that had stood since the 1970s as he moved past Charles Warner career rebounding total of 457. Yoxthimer is also money to break the 1,000-point scoring mark this season.
And in the 1,000-point scoring milestone, Woodgrove coach Steve Douglas reports that Brad Gilson broke that milestone last week in a game against Heritage when Gilson's point totals from his freshman season are figured in with his sophomore year at Loudoun Valley and the past two seasons with new Woodgrove.
Park View Tops Dominion 99-70 as McCarter Tops Billy King record with 44 point performance
The Patriots boys basketball team netted their best effort of the season for a 99-70 victory over the Dominion Titans. Behind a total team effort, Park View’s Ryan McCarter surpassed a 28 year scoring record when he bested Billy King’s single game scoring record of 39 points with a 44 point performance. McCarter tied the record on drive to the hoop while he was fouled for a conventional three point play.
“This feels great. I’ve been trying to beat this thing ever since sophomore year," stated McCarter. “I felt like we played real well as a team and they definitely played a big part in helping me achieve this scoring record. This was a break through game and helps us start a winning streak and get back to playing our style.”
When asked about besting a King record, McCarter stated, “I’ve come close several times in the past few seasons and hadn’t been able to reach the goal until tonight. His name is all over the record board. He has set the standard here for performance on the basketball court. This is an honor.”
Putbacks made the difference in McCarter’s performance with 12 points off six offensive rebounds.
“Playing in the flow and playing off my teammates is key to our success tonight and in future games. We need tonight to get on a roll as a team,” said McCarter.
McCarter finished with 44 points on 12 for 17 from 2’s, 4 for 7 three point shooting, 8 for 9 from free throw line, and 7 rebounds.
The Patriots had several strong performances including Alec Dombkowski’s 20 points, six assists and a two handed jam to help put the game away. Dante Absher had 16 points, while Ben Grapes pulled down six rebounds.
King went on to be a captain at Duke and then play in the NBA. He is currently the General Manager of the New Jersey Nets.

It is amazing how little publicity Anderson got on his night when he scored 43 (LC's record) on PV when McCarter was covering him vs. McCarter's 44 on a team in next to last place. (a blowout game)

ReplyDelete1. Park View boys hoops coach sent out an entire press release after the contest which made the coverage really easy. For Anderson's performance we didn't have anything extra to print.
2. McCarter breaks Billy King's record, a former Duke star and NBA player and current GM of New Jersey Nets! Anderson breaks ... we don't know because over the years, sadly, LC did not keep basketball records! A true shame but the current coaching staff is doing a great of creating records!
