Dominion 3, Tuscarora 2 (8)
The Skinny: Huskies report that the varsity baseball team lost a close one Thursday night as the Dominion Titans got past the Huskies 3-2 in eight innings. Tuscarora’s starting pitcher Bernie Mayflower kept the Huskies in the game for seven innings, yielding only 2 runs on 3 hits. 

 The Tuscarora offense, however, was again dogged by a lack of clutch hitting, leaving men stranded on base in five out of the eight frames. The Huskies went up 1-0 in the second inning when DH Ian Anderson was hit by a pitch and leftfielder Eddie Lang sacrificed him over to second on a bunt. Centerfielder Dalton Scanlon then drove in Anderson with a two-out double to left. Scanlon went 2-4 on the night with two doubles.

Dominion answered in the top of the fourth when they scored two runs on a single and a double. The Huskies came right back in the bottom of the fourth when shortstop Travis Burke, who went 1 for 3 on the night, tied the game with a double down the leftfield line that drove in first baseman Pete Sotos who had reached on an error. The game remained knotted until the top of the eighth inning when the Titans scored the go-ahead run on 5 hits and then held the Huskies hitless in the bottom of the inning to gain the win. 
In addition to Scanlon and Burke, third baseman Tyler Dietrich also contributed to the Huskies’ offense, going 1 for 4 with a single. The Huskies will return to the fray Friday when they Host Freedom High School at 6:00 pm.

The Skinny: Wolverines report that They defeated the Loudoun County Raiders in a tight, well played game. Scott Van Steelent pitched a complete game 5 hitter, striking out 11 batters, to improve his season record to 3-1. Matt Reed and J.J. Sarty each hit solo home runs.

Raiders report that on a crisp evening, they got to play a game for the first time in a week, but hitting and scoring were at a premium and the Varsity Baseball team suffered their third straight loss, this time to newcomers Woodgrove High School 3-2.

 Ryan Wigfield pitched a complete game tonight limiting the Wolverines to only 3 hits. Unfortunately, two of the hits were solo home runsin the third and the sixth innings. Woodgrove's other run came in the first inning with a wild throw to third base. Wigfield did strike out three.

 The Raiders were limited to only five hits. Kris Pratt led of the second inning with a single and advanced to second base on a catcher interference. That allowed Collin Dillon to come and slice an RBI single into right field to even the score at one apiece.

 In the seventh inning, the Raiders fell short on their rally. Pratt reached base on an error then scored on a Matt Slack double into center field. But the tying run stayed on second to end the game. Nick Fisher was the only player with two hits on the night.

 The Raiders travel to Briar Woods Friday night to avenge the early season loss.

The Skinny: Spartans report that the team improved its record to 7-0 on the season with a 9-0 win at Freedom High School on Thursday night. The Spartans are 7-0 in Dulles District play...

Sophomore AJ Powell threw his second no-hitter of the season on the mound for the Spartans to improve his record to 3-0 on the season. Powell struck out 7 batters on the evening while walking 3.

Offensively, the Spartans continued their hot hitting as of late pounding out 17 hits on the evening. Leading the team was Junior Shortstop Conor Jessop with 4 hits (1 double), Junior Andrew Seigel with 3 hits (1 double, 3 runs scored) and Junior Chris Johnson with 3 hits (1 double, 3 runs scored).

The Spartans will return to action this coming Saturday as they are scheduled to host two games at Broad Run in the Cheers/DST Wood Bat Tournament. Game times for the Spartans are 9 AM vs. Marshall and 4:30 PM vs. Heritage.
Stone Bridge 2, McLean 1
The Skinny: Bulldogs report that they hosted the McLean Highlanders on Thursday night in a classic Liberty District showdown. The Bulldogs prevailed 2-1 in a game dominated by the pitchers. The winning pitcher was Bulldog senior righty Mac West who pitched brilliantly, holding the hard-hitting Highlanders to just three hits over 4 2/3 innings.

McLean answered with their ace Jose Sborz ,who had given up just one run all season. Sborz, who is verbally committed to UVA, did not disappoint, fanning eleven Stone Bridge hitters and tossing a complete game four-hitter. However, the Bulldogs touched Sborz for two runs in the fourth inning, and those runs would prove to be decisive. Josh Kuzbel led off the inning by reaching base on an error. One out later Sid Harvey singled, putting runners on first and second with one out. Senior third baseman Ryan Johnston then delivered a clutch two-run double scoring both Kuzbel and Harvey. It was the last Stone Bridge hit on the night, but it was all they would need.

West was relieved by senior Steve Putnick, with the bases loaded in the fifth inning. Putnick retired the next batter on three pitches to work out of the jam. The Highlanders were not finished though, and they would not go down without a fight. They got a leadoff single in the sixth from Tommy Cresce, but Putnick would strand him at second base. McLean threatened again in the seventh, getting runners on first and second before Putnick struck out Sborz and enticed a game-ending comebacker to earn the save.

The Bulldogs offense was led by Johnston. In addition to the two-run double, he received the only two walks issued by Sborz, the second an intentional pass. Mac West also helped himself with a single, and Josh Kuzbel stole two bases in addition to his single.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday night with a home game against Thomas Jefferson.

Robin Heironimus threw a one-hitter, striking out 8 and walking one en route to her third victory of the season in beating Tuscarora by a score of 2-0. Both teams bats were pretty silent as the Patriots only gathered six hits, two each by Sam Thomas, Robin Heironimus and Vanessa Grapes. Sam tripled and scored the first run on Robin’s single. Brittney Moore, who reached on an error that inning, later scored on Emily Nykorchuk’s sacrifice fly. The Huskie’s only hit came in the first on a single by Melissa Brooks, just over the outstretched hands of Park View’s Brittney Moore at second base.

Park View is now 3-7/2-6 District, heading into the second half. They host Potomac Falls tomorrow night at 6:00.

The Skinny: Bulldogs report that sophomore pitcher Kelly McDaniel (4 hits, 2 strikeouts, 2 walks) took the loss as Stone Bridge fell to McLean 1-0 on Thursday evening. It was a well-played game by both teams. The Bulldogs hit the ball hard but were unable to manufacture any runs. Next up for Stone Bridge is Thomas Jefferson at home on Friday, April 15th.

The Skinny:
Titans report that despite playing without Sr Goalie Andrew Fawkes (sprained ankle) and a number of other starters, the Dominion Titans were able to beat back the Woodgrove Wolverines, winning 12-10 Thursday night in the beautiful new Wolverine Stadium. Freshman Christian Renick stepped into Goal for the Titans and came up with several key saves in the second half to help secure the Titan victory.

Woodgrove got on the board first with Kellen McCarthy feeding Chad Neirgarth on both of the first two goals scored by Woodgrove. The Titans finally scored late in the first on a dish from Fr Middie Andrew Ashley to Soph Attack Brett Bushman, who returned the favor to Ashley in the second period. Although the Wolverines led early, holding a 3 -1 advantage at the end of the first period, the Titan's edged ahead and led at the half 5-4, a lead they never relinquished. It was brother-to-brother midway thru the 4th period, as Sr Attack Stephen Tarrant fed younger brother Ben (Fresh Attack) for one of Ben's two goals he had on the night.

For the Titans, Bushman and Sr Kyle Hall both scored hat-tricks with 3 goals a piece, as did Neirgarth (4 goals) and Dennis Radcliff (4 goals) for the Wolverines.
