Baseball
Potomac Falls 6, Park View 0
The Skinny: Potomac Falls was led by the pitching duo of Taylor Jernigan and Stephen Fisher in what is becoming a familiar sight. Jernigan pitched 5 innings of 4-hit ball and Fisher picked up another save striking out five batters in two innings as the Panthers blanked district neighbor Park View.
The Panthers came out sluggish and had a tough time with the Patriots pitcher Adam Flees who retired the side in the 1st. The Panthers pushed a run across in the 2nd on a double By Michael Lascomb who scored on a wild pitch. The Panthers added 2 in the 3rd on a single by Nick Fernandez followed by a walk to Ryan Mahoney. Ryan Miller then drove a ball to the base of the fence in left for a two RBI double and a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, Jernigan was cruising through the Patriots only giving up 2 hits through 4 while striking out 4.
Potomac Falls added 3 insurance runs in the 5th on a single by Ben Sweger, followed by an infield error. Both runners scored on Mahoney’s single to center and then Mahoney scored on Lascomb’s sacrifice fly to left.
With a 6-0 lead, Jernigan turned the ball over to Fisher who promptly struck out 5 while walking 2 to end the game. Potomac Falls increased their record to 9-1, 4-0 in the District.
Softball
Stone Bridge 10, Dominion 3
The Skinny: The Bulldogs defeated Dominion with 15 total hits including triples from Niki Prince, Beth Lewis, Paige Radakovich, and Caroline Kittinger.
Leesburg Christian 16, Mountain View Christian 0
The Skinny: The Lady Lions played at Mountain View Christian and delivered their third straight shutout of the season. The Lions accumulated 16 hits with freshman Macy Mashaw starting off with a run in the first inning. Claressa Mees scored in the third on a dropped third strike. Fifth inning action brought runs by Mashaw, and Claressa Mees. The Lions had a record breaking 6th inning with runs by Christina Webster, Sarah Mozeyko, Claressa Mees, Danielle Mees, Connie Lambert, catcher Livy Workman, and Taylor Delph. Lions Pitcher Claressa Mees struck out 15 and had one walk to shut down Mountain View’s offense. The Lions had a strong defense all afternoon. The 7th inning continued the hot hitting streak with Sarah Mozeyko, Macy Mashaw, Claressa Mees, Danielle Mees and Livy Workman all scoring. Lions action continues on April 22 with a game at Seton in Manassas.

The Skinny: Casey Baker scored three goals for the Patriots and Carleigh Snead added two goals and Alison Kuhn scored.

The Skinny: Viking coach Jeff Lewandowski reports that "we have had a very nice start to the 2010 season. We currently sit at 7-1 and Monday beat Albemarle 10-6. It was a team victory as so many have been this season. We are well balanced and it seems every game someone else steps up and sparks our success. We have many players who have contributed to our early season success so I cannot really single anyone out. We are getting consistent play on both sides of the ball.

Westfield 16, Stone Bridge 14
The Skinny: The Bulldogs led this non-district game, 6-3, but Westfield scored seven straight times to take a 10-6 halftime lead. The game was tied late in the 4th and SB had several shot opportunities but couldn't finish in close. Westfield scored twice for the win. Of note, James Esser played well facing off for SBHS.

Briar Woods 17, Dominion 13
The Skinny: Briar Woods reports that the Falcons jumped out early then the Titans fought their way back to take a two goal lead at the half. In the second half Dominion tacked on a couple of goals and then the Falcons came roaring back to tie it and then eventually pull away.
BW senior Josh Plumhoff was a faceoff stud, winning a majority of the faceoffs. Matt Bukovac was outstanding in the 4th period. Falcons record 6-2 their only losses coming against Robinson Rams and Bullis Bulldogs.

Dominion reports that there was plenty of excitement along Belmont Ridge Road Monday night as the Dominion and Briar Woods lacrosse teams battled back and forth, but it was the Falcons who came out on top, winning 17 to 13. The Titans fall to 4 and 4 and the Falcons improved to 6 and 2, after falling to Bullis over the weekend. Briar Woods came out strong, building a 6-2 advantage at the end of the first, but the Titans guns came alive in the 2nd period scoring 6 goals and Dominion led at the half 8 - 7. The teams traded goals in the third and the score was knotted at 12 at the end of three. Too many unforced errors in the fourth did in the Titans and the Falcon offense took advantage, scoring 5 more goals to secure the victory 17 to 13. The Falcons reeled off 47 shots, nearly twice as many as the Titans. Dominion goalie Andrew Fawkes did his best to hold them off, with 21 saves on the night, but the Titan offense couldn't keep up. For the Titans, Nick Brendes had a stellar night with 5 goals and 2 assists, while Jr Attackman Kyle Hall had a double hat-trick: 3 goals and 3 assists. For the Falcons, Chris Harris scored 4 goals.
