(Apr. 15, 2010) - Villanova senior Scottie Reynolds is about two months away from a possible NBA career -- mock drafts have the former Herndon High School standout going as high as the second round -- but the news this week that Gary Hall had become the new boys basketball coach at Notre Dame Academy caught Reynolds eye for sure.
"Notre Dame Academy has a new No. 1 fan," Reynold said with a laugh this week in a phone interview with VivaLoudoun editor Dan Sousa.
The close relationship between Hall and Reynolds, developed at Herndon, has been well-documented and obviously Reynolds four years at Villanova has not seen the relationship wane.
"We talk all the time. We have a close friendship, a close bond. I look up to him," said Reynolds. "He is a huge part of my life and he is close to my family."
Reynolds said he was sad when Hall stepped down at Herndon and wasn't coaching while his daughters played at Briar Woods over the past four years.
"I'm excited for him to be able to start a program the way he wants it to be," said Reynolds.
Reynolds did have a warning for any players that had plans to play for Hall in the future: they better come prepared to work.
"He will want guys that want to work at being the best and he won't put up with any nonsense," said Reynolds. "He will be looking for players that love the game, that want to get better."
Reynolds has carried that hard work approach from Herndon to Villanova to his NBA draft prep
"I'm working out every day, preparing for the draft in my free time, just working hard," said Reynolds.

ReplyDeleteThere are only two rounds to the NBA Draft?
Great! Now you want me to show my age! I'm used to the old NBA draft ... which in "my day" (think Magic/Bird) went 10 rounds! In 1985 it went down to 7 rounds and then in 1989 to two rounds ... not because of a lack of talent but mostly to make all the players left "free agents" and give them more negotiating room to find a team to try out for ... So expect Reynolds to be a late second round pick and if not, a sought after player to come and try out in the summer.
