Football: Park View Names Ferris Eways as New Coach

Sterling (Apr. 13, 2010) - Park View High School has named Michigan State graduate assistant coach Ferris Eways as the school's new varsity football coach. Eways, a former Centreville High School player and assistant coach, has extensive ties to the Sterling including his father who is the owner operator of the popular Joe's Pizza and his fiancee works for Loudoun County Public Schools as a social worker.

Eways, who played as a wide receiver at Towson in 2000, graduated in 2004 with a degree in sports management/business administration and spent three years as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Centreville (2004-06). Eways also served as the offensive coordinator and running backs coach for the semi-pro Virginia Kinds in 2005 and he interned for three years in the strength and conditioning program for the Washington Redskins (2003, 2005-06).

At Michigan State he spent the 2008 season as a video intern and then moved onto the field in 2009, working with the Spartan defensive staff, primarily with the secondary and linebackers. While at Michigan State, Eways earned his master’s of science in kinesiology, with a concentration in sports administration.

"We are real excited," said Park View Athletic Director Joe Breinig, Jr. "He's got a good intensity and he's going to hit the ground running."

In fact, Eways met with Patriot players after school on Tuesday and has a parents meeting planned for later this month.

Eways was a 2-year captain and 3-year letter winner at Centreville, where he received all-district and all-region honors as wide receiver.

Breinig wrote in a release sent out Tuesday evening: "Mr. Eways has strong ties to the Sterling community with his father being the owner operator of Joe’s pizza. He lives in the community with his fiancée Amy, who is a social worker for Loudoun County Public Schools. They are to be wed this summer. Mr. Eways brings an extensive football background and knowledge to Park View High School and is looking forward to continuing the success and rich football tradition we have here at Park View. His plan is to educate student athletes about determination, work ethic, and the fundamentals needed to become a successful individual on the football field, in the classroom and life."

Eways replaced Andy Hill, who stepped down from the Patriot program prior to landing the head coaching spot at South Lakes High School in Reston.
