Regional Scorecard Updated: 43 of 96 Loudoun Spring Teams Make Regionals!

(May 21, 2012) - If you were on a spring sports team in Loudoun you had almost a 50-50 chance of your team advancing to regionals as a total of 43 Loudoun teams out of 96 have advanced or clinched a trip to regionals.

Loudoun has 12 public high schools offering 10 spring sports but just eight of the teams can advance to regionals as track and field does not advance teams as a whole.

Already, Loudoun has claimed a regional title with the Freedom boys tennis team winning the Northwest Region crown.

Tonight, six Loudoun teams will play for district titles with Stone Bridge baseball and softball at Madison in the Liberty District finals. The Bulldogs face the host Warhawks in the softball finals while the Bulldogs baseball team faces McLean.

In the Cedar Run District finals at Patriot High school, Loudoun is represented in all four finals with a title guaranteed in girls soccer as Freedom squares off against Broad Run. Freedom also plays in the two other finals with the Eagles baseball facing Osbourn and the Eagles boys soccer taking on Stonewall Jackson. The Broad Run softball team plays Battlefield.

There could be a 44th team to make regionals from Loudoun with Broad Run baseball taking on Patriot in the Cedar Run consolation finals. The winner advances to the Northwest Region tournament and the loser is done for the season.

Broad Run and Woodgrove, a second-year school out of Purcellville, have qualified the most teams with six of a possible eight advancing. Broad Run can make it 7 of 8 with the baseball team winning tonight. Briar Woods, Loudoun County and Stone Bridge all qualified five.

Girls soccer has qualified the most teams with seven of 12 schools advancing. Baseball can also make it seven with a Broad Run win.

Regional Scorecard: 30 Loudoun Teams Already Qualified for Regionals

(May 17, 2012) - 30 Loudoun high school spring sports teams have already qualified for their respective regional play and that number will grow as the Dulles District will select another dozen teams to go to Region II after their district tournament.

More Cedar Run District teams could also advance if they are able to finish in the top three of that district tournament. One team, Freedom High School boys tennis, is already heading onto the state tournament:

(May 20, 2010) - It is spring time and that means 80 teams in Loudoun shooting for regional tournament bids in baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer. Last night three more teams punched their ticket with Stone Bridge softball, Briar Woods boys lacrosse and Loudoun County girls lacrosse all earning slots.

VivaLoudoun has compiled an exclusive Regional Scorecard to keep track of how Loudoun teams fare beyond districts. We will update this scorecard daily, especially as more teams qualify for regionals with the Dulles District and Cedar Run District tournaments starting soon.
