Redskins: Mike Shanahan Sept. 17 Press Conference - Washington's Injury Situation, Special Teams Play, Replacement Officiating, and More

(Sept. 17, 2012) - There was no shortage of major topics for Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan to address Monday when he met with the media a day after the team's tough, 31-28, loss at St. Louis. Shanahan covered Washington's injuries woes -- the team has lost defensive end Adam Carriker (quad tendon tear) and linebacker Brian Orakpo (tore his pectoral muscle) for the season -- as well as other topics ranging from special teams play to the NFL replacement officiating:

(Sept. 5, 2012) - Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III and New Orleans Saints interim coach Aaron Kromer and quarterback Drew Brees held press conferences Wednesday in advance of their NFL season opener in New Orleans Sunday.

Highlights included Shanahan saying that safety Brandon Meriweather will be out 2-to-4 weeks with a sprained MCL injury.

Robert Griffin III on his NFL debut Sunday: "It's every kid's dream to play in the NFL ..."

Kromer, who will be coaching his first NFL game as a head coach Sunday, on the Saints tumultuous offseason: "We've had so many things happen to this team since [the suspension of Head Coach] Sean Payton -- whether it be hurricanes, suspensions -- a lot of things have happened to this team. This is a resilient bunch ..."

And Brees revealed that he has already faced RG3 .. .during Super Bowl week when they squared off against each other in the Madden Bowl: "There was more trash talking than talking and talking shop. It was fun ... Little did we know at the time that we would be playing in the first game against each other -- or that our teams would be playing each other."
