(Sept. 5, 2012) - Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan and rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III and New Orleans Saints interim coach Aaron Kromer and quarterback Drew Brees held press conferences Wednesday in advance of their NFL season opener in New Orleans Sunday.
Highlights included Shanahan saying that safety Brandon Meriweather will be out 2-to-4 weeks with a sprained MCL injury.
Robert Griffin III on his NFL debut Sunday: "It's every kid's dream to play in the NFL ..."
Kromer, who will be coaching his first NFL game as a head coach Sunday, on the Saints tumultuous offseason: "We've had so many things happen to this team since [the suspension of Head Coach] Sean Payton -- whether it be hurricanes, suspensions -- a lot of things have happened to this team. This is a resilient bunch ..."
And Brees revealed that he has already faced RG3 .. .during Super Bowl week when they squared off against each other in the Madden Bowl: "There was more trash talking than talking and talking shop. It was fun ... Little did we know at the time that we would be playing in the first game against each other -- or that our teams would be playing each other."

Area fans had a lot to cheer about Sunday as the Robert Griffin III era in Washington kicked off with a shocking 40-32 win at New Orleans. Griffin was stellar in his NFL debut, completing 19 of 26 passes for 320 yards and two TDs to finish with an out-of-this-world QB rating of 139.9.
