Ashburn (Jan. 27, 2011) - Broad Run High School senior outfielder Zach Rawson has verbally committed to play baseball at Saint Peter’s College (NJ) next year. Rawson has earned St. Peter’s prestigious Presidential Scholarship that will cover his full tuition at the college for four years. Rawson is a member of Broad Run’s baseball and basketball squads. In baseball, he has earned Dulles All-District honors two consecutive seasons; he led the team with a .453 batting average as a sophomore and as a junior he batted .408 for the Spartans helping the team win the Dulles District tournament championship. He currently is one the captains of the basketball team that has a 14-1 record on the season.
In the classroom, Rawson carries a 4.4 grade point average earning him a No. 6 class ranking out of nearly 400 students. He has excelled while taking countless Advanced Placement classes, and he is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Key Club.
“Zach is a model student-athlete. He is the type of young man I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to coach. I am sure he will do great things at St. Peter’s in the classroom and on the baseball field,” commented Broad Run baseball coach, Pat Cassidy.
St. Peter’s is a member of the Divison I, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The MAAC consists of Northeastern colleges such as: Fairfield, Manhattan, Marist, and Rider.
Rawson will be the third Spartan to play for St. Peter’s. Former Spartans John Lynch (BRHS – ’06) and Conor Mullee (BRHS – ’06) both suited up for SPC. Mullee has since continued his career in the New York Yankees organization (2010 MLB Draft, 24th round).
