News: Woodgrove Assistant AD Trenary Returns Home to Become Clark County Schools Director of Operations

(Jan. 5, 2011) - Woodgrove High School assistant athletic director Randy Trenary has left Loudoun County Public Schools to become the Clarke County Public Schools new Director of Operations.

Trenary's first official day in his new position was today. The long-time Clarke County resident, is a former teacher, coach and athletic director in Clarke County. He left Clarke County to work as assistant AD at Heritage High School when it opened in 2002 and he moved to Woodgrove this fall to help open the new Purcellville school.

"It is a pretty good opportunity for me and my family. I couldn't turn it down," said Trenary.

As Director of Operations in Clarke, Trenary's primary areas of responsibility will include transportation, safety and security, emergency management, custodial, and food service operations.

"It is a big loss for us but a no brainer for him. It is a great opportunity for Randy," said Woodgrove Athletic Director Rusty Lowery. Woodgrove's search for a new assistant AD will start soon.

In the fall, Trenary was inducted into the Clarke County High School Sports Hall of Fame.

(Oct. 26, 2010) - Woodgrove High School assistant athletic director Randy Trenary was inducted into the Clarke County High School Sports Hall of Fame on Friday evening. Trenary was a 3-sport standout athlete as well as coach and athletic director at Clarke County.

Trenary graduated from Clarke in 1986 and earned two varsity letters in basketball and three in football, where he co-led the team and area in interceptions his senior year. In track he was a district champion in the high jump his junior year and placed sixth in the Region B meet, qualifying for Sates. His senior year he was district runner-up. He was awarded the outstanding male senior athlete award by coaches.

After college, Trenary returned to Clarke where he was the head coach for boys and girls track at Johnson-Williams Middle School. He was also Clarke's JV football and basketball coach at times as well as the school's head strength coach. Trenary was an assistant varsity football coach from 1991 to 1993 and then became head varsity football coach from 1994 to 2000. He also became the school's athletic director in 1997 and remained AD until leaving for Heritage High School in Leesburg in 2002. This year Trenary moved to Woodgrove.

As Clakre's AD, Trenary started the school's wrestling program as well as JV softball and girls JV soccer. He also developed Clarke's academic monitoring program for athletes and he developed the athlete drug testing program. Trenary turned the Clarke County Track Invitational into a top notch meet with 20 schools and, along with Frank Jurney, he started the Berryville Bluegrass series that helped bring in almost $20,000 yearly for the athletic program and athletic scholarships.

He helped in every phase of building the current football stadium, from working with contractors, to painting, planting grass seed, putting up the fence, and even having his football players pick up and remove rocks from the field.

Other members inducted Friday: Bill Martz, Bonnie Broy Dodson, Denny Longerbeam, Dwayne Dillow, Sean Munson and Brent Emmart.

News: Heritage Track and Field Coach Kate Cassidy is Pride's New Assistant Athletic Director

(June 15, 2010) - Heritage High School has hired current boys track and field coach Kate Cassidy as the Pride's new assistant athletic director.

Cassidy replaces Randy Trenary, who leaves Heritage to become the first ever assistant athletic director for Woodgrove High School which opens this fall in Purcellville.

In addition to a new track and field coach to replace Cassidy, the Pride will be looking for a girls track and field coach as Katie Boring has announced that she is stepping down for her position at the school.
