College Corner: Former Stone Bridge Standout Stancik Transfers to Play NCAA Division I Baseball at VCU

(May 25, 2010) - Earlier today, former Stone Bridge HS baseball standout Mike Stancik announced he has committed to play baseball for the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams for his final two years of NCAA college eligibility.

College Corner: Former Bulldog Mike Stancik Helps Patrick Henry CC to Tie School Record with 40 Wins

(May 14, 2010) - Former Stone Bridge High School baseball standout Mike Stancik leads Patrick Herny Community College in hitting with a .404 average and has helped the Patriots to tie the school record with a 40-15 regular-season mark.

The team is currently ranked #13 in the NJCAA Division II poll and starting today through May 18 they are hosting the Region X tournament May 14-18 in Martinsville. The winner advances to the NJCAA DII World Series held in Enid, OK later this month.

Stancik is slated to play summer ball for the Edenton (NC) Steamers in the Coastal Plains League, an NCAA sanctioned summer wood bat league.

College Update: LV Grad Walker MAAC Rookie of the week; SB Grad Stancik and Heritage Grad Peters with First College Home Runs

(Apr. 15, 2010 - Wes Walker, a 2009 graduate of Loudoun Valley High School was named as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office on April 12.

Walker, a freshman, is the starting catcher for the Niagara University (NU) Purple Eagles. NU is a Division I program. While at Loudoun Valley, Walker played four years for coach Wayne Todd. He was team captain during his junior and senior season and was named first team all Cedar Run district and Loudoun All Extra during his senior campaign.

In other college baseball news, Stone Bridge High School grad Mike Stancik hit his first college home run last week. Stancik is playing for nationally-ranked junior college team Patrick Henry CC (No. 6 in the NJCAA DII poll). Patrick Henry is 31-8 and Stancik, starting at third base, is hitting around the .350 mark and leads the team in on base percentage.

His home run, a grand slam no less, came against Ferrum and was a 385-foot shot off the scoreboard in left center.

And finally we have another first college home run as Heritage grad Brenton Peters had a huge day for Cornell Sunday in a doubleheader against Brown. Peters went 5-for-6 in the first game with two runs scored and in the second game he slammed his first career home run and went 4-for-4.
