Track and Field: Broad Run Hurdler Jonathan Russell Signs with South Carolina

(Feb. 2, 2012) - Broad Run High School senior Jonathan Russell, one of the top prep hurdlers in the nation, signws his National Letter of Intent Thursday for a full scholarship to the University of South Carolina. The signing took place at the Phenom Strength and Conditioning facility located in Ashburn.

Russell captured the 300 hurdles in AA state meet record time last spring as well as winning the 200 meters and anchoring the Spartans' winning 1,600-meter relay team. Over the summer he turned in the fifth fastest prep 400 meter hurdle time in the nation at the New Balance Outdoors Nationals and then traveled to France to represent the U.S. at the IAAF World Youth Championships.

Track and Field: Broad Run's Russell Representing USA in World Championships This Week

(July 7, 2011) - Jonathan Russell, a rising senior at Broad Run High School, is representing the United States at the 2011 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Youth Track Championships this week, July 6-10 in Lille, France.

Russell won the 400-meter hurdles in the World Youth Trials in Myrtle Beach, S.C, in 52.48 seconds, a meet record. That qualified him for the IAAF meet.

Track and Field: Broad Run's Jonathan Russell Turns in 5th Fastest 400 Meter Hurdle Time in Nation at New Balance Outdoors Nationals

(June 25, 2011) - It seems that Broad Run High School rising senior Jonathan Russell was just getting warmed up at the VHSL state championships earlier this month as the talented hurdler turned in the fifth fastest 400 meter hurdles time in the nation with a 52.38 at the New Balance Outdoors Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. last weekend.

Russell captured the slower section with that time and finished fourth at the meet for All-American honors. His time is tops in Virginia this year.

Next up for Russell is the World Youth trials this coming Tuesday and Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C. During the first two days of the championships 16- and 17- year-olds that have met qualifying standards will participate in the World Youth Track and Field Trials. Winners of these events will be considered for selection to the 2011 USA World Youth Team and will leave Myrtle Beach immediately for the IAAF World Youth Championships in Lille, France.

The 2011 World Youth Championship is held in Lille, France taking place July 6-10, 2011.
