(July 7, 2011) - Jonathan Russell, a rising senior at Broad Run High School, is representing the United States at the 2011 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Youth Track Championships this week, July 6-10 in Lille, France.
Russell won the 400-meter hurdles in the World Youth Trials in Myrtle Beach, S.C, in 52.48 seconds, a meet record. That qualified him for the IAAF meet.
This spring, Russell won both the 300 hurdles and the 200-meter dash in the Virginia High School (VHSL) Group AA state meet. He set a VHSL Group AA record in the 300 hurdles.
The IAAF dates back to 1912, when it was founded by 17 national athletic federations that saw the need for a governing authority. Today, the IAAF represents 213 national athletic federations and is headquartered in Monaco. The organization employs more than 70 full-time, multi-national professional staff.
