News: Freedom Debater Finishes 6th in Nation

South Riding (July 7, 2011) - Avi Jaggi, a recent graduate of Freedom High School, finished sixth in the nation at the Lincoln Financial Group/National Forensic League National Speech and Debate Tournament June 13-18 in Dallas.


Taking part in this competition necessitated Jaggi missing Freedom's graduation ceremony June 18th at George Mason University's Patriot Center. He received a large round of applause when Principal Christine Forester cited the reason for Jaggi's absence.

The Lincoln Financial Group/National Forensic League National Speech & Debate Tournament is the largest academic competition in the world. To attend, students must place among the top competitors at one of the National Forensic League's 106 district tournaments.

The National Forensic League has run the National Debate & Speech Tournament continuously since 1931 (except for the World War II years) and the National Student Congress since 1938.
