Softball: Dominion SR Claire Drew to Play at Christopher Newport

(May 8, 2013) - Dominion High School 4-year starting pitcher Claire Drew has committed to playing softball next year at NCAA Division III Christopher Newport.

Drew has been a standout at Dominion since her freshman year when she became the first pitcher in program history to throw a no-hitter (the Titans had a combined no-hitter by two pitchers in 2007)  and set a team mark with 17 strikeouts. She was named second team All-Dulles District after her freshman and junior campaigns.


She currently plays travel for the Revolution 18U and previously played for the SYA Exposion 18U in 2010 and the Baseliners 18U in 2009.

Drew becomes the 8th area athlete to commit to CNU sport next year -- tops among college chosen with Alderson-Broaddus College (6) and Shepherd University (5) the next most popular choices.

There are now 28 baseball/softball commits, trailing only soccer (33) and football (38).
