News: Register Now for Broad Run's Grapplers and Ghouls Gallop 5K Fundraiser

(Sept. 7, 2012) - Registration is underway for Broad Run High School's Grapplers and Ghouls 5K fundraiser which will be held Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. starting at the school in Ashburn.

The Grapplers and Ghouls Gallop is a road race event meant to connect the local community and its students, as well as the students of the local middle schools, and the alumni of the old. The path of race will take runners from the campus of Broad Run, down to Farmwell Road and through the Farmwell Hunt development before circling back and ending back at Broad Run.


The race will be professionally timed by Potomac River Running.

The race benefits the Broad Run wrestling program as well as the athletic booster club. Proceeds will help aid athletes in attending camps, provide for athletic improvements as well as creating a preseason practice run for all those athletes preparing for the winter seasons.

The race is also meant to share the Halloween spirit and to get some exercise before the pounds of candy come pouring in! Come run in your Halloween costume and win a trophy for the best costume of the race!

There is also a Middle School Competition Division to see who the fastest youngsters are! Sign your son or daughter up for the Middle School Melee to see which Eagle, Stingray or Falcon wins the trophy.

There will be multiple categories for people to compete in:
*Middle School Division - sign up as a Farmwell Falcon, Eagle Ridge Eagle, Stone Hill Stingray or other middle schooler. There will be awards to the top 3 boys and top 3 girls.
* For the BRHS students - the race for the fastest 3 boy and 3 girl Spartans is on!
* For the family, friends and members of Spartan Wrestling Alumni Association (SWAA) - who still has it??! We will find out who the top 3 medalers are!
* For the General Public - top 3 in each category (male and female) will be crowned! 18-24, 25-30, 31-39, 40-49,50-59,60+

Race Fees -
Middle and High School sign ups - $10- no early bird special, $15 day of the race
SWAA members family and friends - $20 - set price no matter what, even day of race
General Public - $20 -early bird to Sept 19, $25 - regular price til day of race, $30 at the door

Shirt sizes to be offered will be S, M, L, XL, and XXL

The race will start at 9am and Award Ceremonies will begin at approx. 1015am. Registration will start at 8am.
