Track and Field: Top Boys Marks for 2013 - Weekend Produces Great Results!
(April 29, 2013) - With perfect spring weather finally here and the postseason just around the final turn, the weekend produced the best marks of the 2013 track and field season with 14 of 16 boys events seeing a new top mark!
The weekend was highlighted by Loudoun County senior Patrick Joseph's stunning run at the Penn Relays mile which converted into a 4:06 1600 meter time -- some 21 seconds better than the next mark! The week before Joseph had the top 800 run of the season at Handley with a 1:52.64.
And if you followed our football coverage you might recognize some of these names: Alabama recruit Jon Allen of Stone Bridge heaved a 45-8 in the shot put at the Cassel's XBC Track Experience while his teammate D'Ante Yarborough posted top times in the 110 hurdles (14.31) and 300 hurdles (39.51).
Briar Woods super sophomore football player Brandon Polk, who already has offers from Maryland, Virginia Tech and ODU, blazed to new top times in the 100 meters (10.94) and 200 meters (22.35) at the Apple Blossom in Winchester.
Broad Run standout football player Dorian Jenkins put in a 22-1.75 long jump at Cassel's and his teammate Darion Bunting lept to 44-0.75 in the triple jump.
Tuscarora lineman Brandon Chirinos thew the discus 150-3 at Cassel's and Dominion's Garrett Robinson went 49.70 in the 400 meters at the Apple Blossom.
In the 3200, XC standout John Dooney of Tuscarora posted a 9:35.80.
All three relays had new No. 1 marks: Stone Bridge 4x100 (43.99); Loudoun County 4x400 (3:25.06) and Tuscarora 4x800 (8:06.05).
