Washington Redskins: Robert Griffin III Teams Up with USAA to Support Military Community

San Antonio (June 17, 2013) USAA announced that Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will support their military appreciation efforts this year. This agreement supports USAA’s Official Military Appreciation Sponsorship of the NFL and the Washington Redskins. The 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was born on a U.S. military base and grew up in military communities across the country as his parents served in the U.S. Army.

“I’ll take a look at film each day, drills he’s going through and how he’s throwing the ball and exactly what he’s doing. You want to make sure that he doesn’t overdo it, and so that’s one of the reasons why you look at the film. But he’s in there getting a lot of treatment, in the weight room every day, doing the things that he needs to do. I think you could see today he’s been throwing the ball for a while. (Sept. 14, 20120 - The National Football League announced today that Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has been voted by fans as the Pepsi Max NFL Rookie of the Week and FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week for Week 1.

Griffin III, 22, was a nominee for both awards following his Week 1 performance against the New Orleans Saints, in which he led his team to a 40-32 road victory at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in his first career start. Griffin III — the first quarterback born in the 1990s to lead his team to a win — completed 19-of-26 passes for 320 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Wait, OK, the last part isn't true but the hype is still cranked up with a capital H in the nation's capital though Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said at Wednesday's weekly press conference: "Let's not get carried away with all this. This is the first game and it's a growing experience and each game you are going to experience different things. It's part of a maturation process that he is going to have some high and some lows ... "

This week the Redskins play at the St. Louis Rams, a team that traded their No. 2 pick in the draft to the Redskins so that Washington could draft RG3. We are putting together a gift basket as a way of saying "thank you" to the Rams but in the meantime let's see what Shanahan, Robert Griffin III, Rams coach Jeff Fisher and quarterback Sam Bradford have to say to the media about the Week 2 match-up:

On the difference between OTA’s and training camp:

“It’s all business now.  You know we’re getting down to the season time.  I think everybody came back in great shape, as you can see from running a little bit.  Everybody is just ready to go out and compete, so I am too.”

On if there are more nerves during training camp:

“No, I mean I think I was more anxious, maybe a little nervous for minicamp than OTA’s.  But now that I’ve been through the offense and had a trial at it, got a taste of how fast the game is and just what I need to do as a quarterback to help this team win, I feel a lot more comfortable.  So it’s actually more relaxing.  There’s nothing else going on outside of football anymore.  You know we’re in training camp so we’re pretty much on lockdown, but for a guy like me that’s a good thing.”

NFL: Redskins Rookies, Vets Move Indoors for OTA

Ashburn (May 21, 2012) - For the first time this spring the Washington Redskins rookies, including quarterback Robert Griffin III, joined the veterans as the team held their first round of organized team activities  at Redskins Park on Monday. The team's new indoor practice facility got its baptism as the rain forced things indoors. Here is what RG3 and veteran linebacker London Fletcher had to say to the media after the workout:

On his first day with the veterans: “It was good. The workout was good. I was talking to the guys in the locker room, it felt like I had pretty good command of the offense. I knew what I was doing, knew where to go and I could just play football and let loose.”
