Softball: Briar Woods Clinches Second Straight Trip to States on Macy Jones No-Hitter

Orange (June 3, 2011) - Junior Macy Jones fired her second no-hitter of the season with 16 strikeouts and drove in a pair of runs to lead Briar Woods to a 3-0 win at Orange County in the semifinals of the Virginia High School League Group AA Region II Tournament Thursday night.

The Falcons will host Dulles District rival Woodgrove in the Region II championship game Friday at 6 p.m. in Ashburn. Woodgrove defeated Goochland 4-1 in Thursday’s other region semifinal contest.

Both Briar Woods and Woodgrove will also advance to the VHSL Group AA state tournament that starts with quarterfinal action Tuesday, June 7. The Falcons will be making their second straight appearance in the state tournament.

Football: Falcons Soar to 53-7 Playoff Win Over Orange County

Ashburn (Nov. 12, 2010) - Briar Woods High School senior running back Michael Brownlee took the first snap from scrimmage Friday night for a 64-yard touchdown and the Falcons never looked back as they put points on the scoreboard in almost every way imaginable in a 53-7 Region II Division 4 quarterfinal victory over Orange County.

Brownlee finished the night with an impressive 217 yards rushing on 17 carries and accounted for all three of the Briar Woods scores in the first half -- scoring on runs of 28 and 5 yards in addition to the game opener -- as they built a commanding 26-0 halftime lead.

Gymnastics: Park View to Host 30th Annual Invitational, All 10 Loudoun Schools to Compete in Event

Sterling (Jan. 8, 2010) _ Park View High School will be holding the 30th annual Park View Gymnastics Invitational sponsored by Glory Days Grill on Sat. Jan. 8.

The competition will be held in Park View High School’s main gymnasium. Admission will be $5 and with every paid admission you will receive a free appetizer card from Glory Days (while supplies last).

Warm-ups begin at 8 am, march-in starts at 10 am and competition will begin shortly after.

The high schools that will be in attendance are Briar Woods, Broad Run, Colonial Forge, Dominion, Freedom, Heritage, Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley, North Stafford, Orange County, Park View, Potomac Falls, Stone Bridge, Turner Ashby, and Harrisonburg.

Any gymnasts from previous Park View Invitational competitions are encouraged to attend to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of the competition.
