Youth Sports - Track and Field: NOVA A.C. Girls Capture Ages 9-10 National Team Championship

(July 8, 2011) - Kayla Hugg (Ashburn), Sydney Jenkins (Ashburn), Maya Whitfield (Sterling), and Leah Polk (South Riding) from Loudoun-based track team NOVA A.C, amassed a total of 45 points to win the Bantam (9-10 year old) Girls Division at the 2011 USA Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C., June 30-July 3. They beat Greater Norristown PAL Track Club by the narrow margin of 2 points, after facing tough competition from the Pennsylvanian team throughout the meet.

(May 26, 2011) - NOVA A.C. athletes captured 19 first places and 13 runner-up finishes at the Loudoun Hershey Track and Field Meet on May 22 at Heritage High School.

Youth Sports - Track and Field - Three State Champions for NOVA A.C.

(July 8, 2010) - Loudoun-based track and field club NOVA A.C. produced three state champions in two different meets in June -- the Hershey’s Track and Field Virginia State Meet at the University of Virginia’s Lannigan Field in Charlottesville and the AAU regional qualifier at Darling Stadium in Hampton.
Competing in the Hershey event, Kayla Hugg of Ashburn was a double winner in the 9-10 Girls, 100 and 200 Meters. Hugg has outstanding personal records for a 9-year-old of 14.84 and 30.54.

In the 11-12 Boys 800 Meters, Purcellvilles’s Jarred Silverman ran a strong race from the front to win in a new personal best time of 2:29.

Second places were achieved by both NOVA’s 13-14 4x100 Meter Relay teams. Girls - Alyssa Summers, Mariah Rosengarten, Rachel Anderson, Amy Bashioum. Boys- Jordan Glass, Alex Galloway, Aaron Randall, Ishmael Williams.

Leesburg’s Natalie Rosas performed consistently well, achieving third places in both the 13-14 Girls 1600 and 800 Meters with times of 6:06 and 2:47.

Also finishing 3rd in the 9-10 Girls 400 Meters was first year runner Sydney Jenkins from Ashburn and the 11-12 Boys 4x 100 Meter team of Will Smagh, Travis Hugg, Leland Girdy and Spencer Jenkins.

Top 5 places were achieved by Ashburn’s Dane Boegner 13-14 Boys 800 and 1600 meter races and Jordan Glass, 13-14 200 meters.

As state winners, Hugg and Silverman will wait to see if they are among the fastest in Region 8 to be selected for the Hershey North America Final in Hershey, PA on August 7.

At the AAU meet in Hampton, against top competition from throughout Virginia, 14-year-old Brandon Polk from South Riding won the Youth Boys 200 meters in 23.67. Polk also took second in the 100 meters running 11.80 in the final, having been the fastest qualifier the previous day with a new personal record of 11.73.

The Midget Boys quartet of Connor Anderson, Saurav Velleleth, Matthew Newberry and Will Smagh placed 5th in the 4x800 meters and Newberry was seventh in the Midget Boys 3,000. All these athletes qualify for the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Norfolk August 1-7.
