Baseball: Late Stone Bridge Assistant Coach Timbers Honored Prior to Bulldogs Opener at Loudoun Valley

(Mar. 23, 2010) - There was no better way to honor the late Stone Bridge High School assistant baseball coach James Timbers than with the pregame tribute in the Bulldogs opener Friday at Fireman's Field in Purcellville where Timbers grew up playing the sport for Loudoun Valley High School.

Family, friends and former coaches and teammates gathered on the field for the ceremony and James Timbers III threw out the first pitch. Timbers, who helped coach baseball at Stone Bridge since the school opened a decade ago, passed away in January after a battle with cancer.

When the action got underway, the club Timbers helped coach, Stone Bridge, took the win, 10-2, over the club Timbers formerly played for.

Stone Bridge junior pitcher Steve Putnick got the win, going five strong innings allowing two runs on five hits. Senior Spencer Brookbank came in to relieve in the sixth, shutting down the Viking hitters, facing seven batters and striking out two.

The Bulldog bats came alive in the later innings, scoring eight of their 10 runs in the last three innings.

Senior Taylor Lambke went 2-for-3 with a 2-run home run in the sixth inning over the right center field fence. Bulldog hitters T.J. O’Neal, Brookbank, and Spenser Rositano all went 2-for-4.

Stone Bridge (1-1) plays Thomas Jefferson Tuesday at home starting at 6:30 p.m. Loudoun Valley (1-1) is at Westfield on Wednesday.

Baseball: Late Stone Bridge Assistant Coach Timbers to be Honored Prior to Game Friday at Valley

(Mar. 18, 2010) - James Timbers, the Stone Bridge High School assistant baseball coach and former Loudoun Valley player, who passed away recently, will be honored in a ceremony Friday prior to Friday's 6 p.m. game in Purcellville between the two AAA teams.

Family members and former teammates will be on hand for the ceremony at Fireman's Field which will start at apx. 5:45 p.m. and will honor his days as a Vikings player and his time as a Bulldogs coach. James Timbers III, son of the late coach, will throw out the first pitch.

Timbers passed away in January after a fight with cancer.

Baseball: Scholarship Fund Established in Memory of Former Stone Bridge Assistant Coach

(Feb. 1, 2010) - For those who could not attend the memorial service two weekends ago for James "JT" Timbers, the Stone Bridge High School assistant baseball coach who passed away after a fight with cancer, the program is reprinted here.

Baseball: Stone Bridge Assistant Coach James Timbers Loses Long Fight with Cancer

(Jan. 13, 2010) - Stone Bridge High School assistant varsity baseball coach James Timbers passed away Monday evening after a long fight with cancer, according to Bulldog head coach Sam Plank.

Timbers started out as the junior varsity baseball coach when Stone Bridge opened in 2000. He moved up to become the varsity assistant the next year and had been with the program ever since.

He was a local product, playing youth sports in Loudoun County and going on to play basketball and baseball at Loudoun Valley High School where he was an all-district selection in baseball at two positions (OF, Pitcher) both his junior and senior years.

Timbers went on to become a 4-year starter in centerfield at George Mason University, where he had a career batting average around .300 and was an NCAA scholar athlete. He coached youth football, basketball, and baseball after graduation from GMU and came on to assist Plank after 10 years of coaching youth sports in Loudoun.
