Boys Basketball: Bulldogs Bounce Back, Beating Broad Run 82-66 in Battle of 'Burn

Ashburn (Dec. 30, 2012) - After starting the Honda of Dulles Battle of Ashburn Tournament with a 12 point loss against Briar Woods on Friday night, the Stone Bridge High School boys basketball team bounced back and defeated Broad Run on Saturday 82-66 after outscoring the Spartans 31-13 in the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs (3-8 record) shot 23 of 31 from the free throw line, including 15 of 17 from the line in the final quarter, to conclude their come from behind victory against the Spartans (4-6). Jason Jolly, Emad Rahman and Jimmy Higgins combined for 47 points and Jon Allen's double-double included 16 big boards in the win for Stone Bridge.

Girls Basketball: Prince Paves Way for Stone Bridge Overtime Win Over Broad Run

 Ashburn (Dec. 30, 2012) - Stone High School senior guard Niki Prince scored a game-high 28 points with 10 rebounds and had the assist on junior Megan Della Penna's basket with just under 30 seconds left Saturday that sent the Bulldogs and Broad Run girls into overtime on the final night of the Honda of Dulles Battle of Ashburn basketball tournament.

It was all Stone Bridge (7-4 record) in overtime as the Bulldogs out-scored the Spartans (7-6), 14-5, for a 55-46 victory.

Leading at halftime 25-22, Stone Bridge quickly gave up their lead as Broad Run dominated the beginning of the third quarter leading at one point by eight points. Spartan senior guard Ellie Ferguson (20 points, 6 rebounds) led her team, knocking down every third quarter shot she attempted.

Boys Basketball: Jake Ryan Leads Briar Woods to 64-52 Win Over Stone Bridge in Battle of Ashburn

Ashburn (Dec. 28, 2012) – The Briar Woods High School boys basketball team hustled and defended their way to a 64-52 win over Stone Bridge Friday in the second night of the Honda of Dulles Battle of Ashburn Tournament.

Briar Woods (3-4 record) and Stone Bridge (2-8) matched up pretty evenly throughout the first half, but late in the second quarter Falcons’ senior forward Jake Ryan (27 points, 6 rebounds) got hot, connecting on baskets on four of Briar Woods’ last five possessions of the half.

Girls Basketball: Stone Bridge's Della Penna Dominates the Boards in Bulldogs Win Over Briar Woods

Ashburn (Dec. 28, 2012) – Junior forward Megan Della Penna (12 rebounds, 10 offensive) and the rest of the Stone Bridge High School girls basketball team dominated the boards on Friday night at Briar Woods in a one-sided 47-7 victory in the second round of the Honda of Dulles Battle of Ashburn.

The Bulldogs (6-4) grabbed 23 offensive rebounds, one more than the Falcons (1-10) total rebound count of 22. Stone Bridge senior point guard Niki Prince and junior forward Annie Bokulic led all scorers with eight points each.

Boys Basketball: Broad Run Bench Scores 58 as Spartans Run By Briar Woods, 85-63, in Battle of Ashburn

Ashburn (Dec. 27, 2012) - Broad Run High School's offensive execution and defensive tenacity allowed for transition baskets and an advantage in ball control against Briar Woods in the first round of the Honda of Dulles Battle of Ashburn Tournament on Thursday night. The Spartans secured the victory, 85-63, thanks to a kick start from their bench.

Starting the game on the poor end of a 10-4 run, the Broad Run starters looked out-matched and out of condition so Spartans head coach John Costello quickly pulled all five starters. Entering the game were senior Mitch Pittman, juniors Khiorie Stewart, Justin Hart and Chris Coggins and freshman Jaleel Robinson ... and they made a powerful statement. Stewart led all scorers with a season-high 26 points, while Coggins finished with 18 points, 12 points more than his previous season high.

Girls Basketball: Broad Run Forces 22 Turnovers to Blow by Briar Woods, 49-21, in Battle of Ashburn Opener

Ashburn (Dec. 27, 2012) - In the first varsity level matchup of the Honda of Dulles Battle of Ashburn basketball tournament on Thursday, the Broad Run High School girls forced 22 turnovers and wrapped up an easy 49-21 victory over Briar Woods.

The Spartans (7-5 overall) were  led by senior guard Ellie Ferguson (14 points) and freshman forward Mariah Leonard (8 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals). Broad Run scored early and often, seeing double digit scoring in the first three quarters.

Basketball: 5th Annual Honda of Dulles Battle of Ashburn Tournament Tips Off Thursday

Ashburn (Dec. 26, 2012) - The 5th Annual Honda of Dulles Battle of Ashburn holiday basketball tournament tips off Thursday, Dec. 27 with six games at Broad Run High School. Over the course of the 3-day tournament, Ashburn's three high schools -- Briar Woods, Broad Run and Stone Bridge -- will take turns hosting boys and girls freshman, JV and varsity contests.

Ticket prices are $6 for the day with no school passes accepted.

Ashburn (Dec. 21, 2011) - The 4th Annual Honda of Dulles Holiday Tournament, billed as the Battle of Ashburn, features 18 games next week on all levels between Briar Woods, Broad Run and Stone Bridge high schools boys and girls basketball programs.

Admission is $6 per day with no season passes accepted.
