(Dec. 10, 2010) - Since the modern era of Virginia High School League football started in 1970 until 2007 there was only one state title earned in Loudoun history with Park View winning in 1988. On Saturday Briar Woods High School -- a school that didn't open until 2005 -- attempts to become the third school from Ashburn to take home a state title in the last four years.
The Falcons (12-2) face undefeated Harrisonburg (13-0) at 4:30 p.m. at Liberty University in Lynchburg in their quest to join Stone Bridge (2007) and Broad Run (2008, 2009) in the growing list of local team's to win the ultimate "big game."
Briar Woods biggest hurdle may have been neighboring Broad Run as the Falcons edged the Spartans, 24-21, in the regional title game and then rolled to a 52-8 crushing over Courtland last week in the semifinals.
