College Corner: Loudoun County Grad Brittany Batts Leads Gannon Women Hoops to D2 Elite 8

(March 20, 2013) - Loudoun County High School grad Brittany Batts, leading the nation in three-point field goal percentage, helped the Gannon women's basketball team capture the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region championship with a 50-47 win over California (PA). Gannon now advances to the Elite 8.

Batts, one of the greatest outside shooters in Loudoun history, now has 99 three's on the season, a single season Gannon record. The Knights will play Ashland on March 26 in San Antonio at 9:30 p.m.

(Nov 16, 2011) - Loudoun County High School grad Brittany Batts is showing not only was she a star basketball player in high school, but Batts is bringing it to the collegiate level at Gannon University.

Batts' 21 points led the way offensively for the Lady Knights in a runaway season-openikng, 113-31, victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny. In her collegiate debut, the freshman was 8-of-13 from the floor, draining five of her 10 long-range attempts. She also added five steals, three assists and three rebounds.

College Corner: Broad Run Grad Vargas on ESPNU Live Tonight as Gannon University Plays in NCAA D2 Final Four

(Mar. 24, 2010) - Broad Run High School grad Kim Vargas, a senior starter at undefeated Gannon University will be play tonight in the NCAA Division II Final Four as her Lady Knights take on Emporia State. The game will be televised live on ESPNU at 9:30 p.m.

The 6-foot Vargas averages 9.6 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game and has started all 37 games this season for the school located in Erie, Penn. The 37 records sets a NCAA Division II record and the 37-game winning streak is fourth longest in Division II history.
