Baseball: Broad Run Grad Conor Mullee Drafted by New York Yankees

(June 9, 2010) - Former Broad Run High School baseball standout Conor Mullee, who just finished up his playing career at Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ as one of the school's all-time leading hitters, has been chosen by the New York Yankees as a pitcher in the 24th round of the Major League Baseball draft.

A 4-year starter at Saint Peter's, playing in a record 205 games, Mullee gained the interest of MLB teams when he was asked to pitch for scouts on the school's "Pro Day" in the fall and he hit 93 mph on the radar gun. Mullee, who only pitched a couple of innings in high school, made seven relief appearances on the mound this season, hitting a reportedly 95 on the radar gun, while staying an everyday middle infielder.

In an interview with the Jersey Journal Mullee said: "(The Metropolitan area) is different than Virginia. I love it up here. I have no problem living in the city. My ultimate goal is to become a Major League player."

In his seven pitching appearances this spring he posed a 10.50 ERA. The 6-foot-3, 183-pounder finished his career as the school's all-time leader in games played (205), games started (205), at-bats (743), hits (216), doubles (55), RBIs (141) and total bases (331). He was No. 2 all-time in runs scored (130) and tied for No. 3 in home runs (16). He posted his best season this past spring while hitting .325 with eight home runs and a perfect 16 of 16 on stolen bases.

Mullee told the college's sports information department: "This is an extremely exciting day for me and my family. To be drafted by one of my favorite teams is a dream come true and I can't wait to put on Yankee Pinstripes."
