Girls Basketball: Foxcroft's Claire Andrews Named First Team All-DAC

Middleburg (Feb. 25, 2011) - Claire Andrews, a senior center who led the Foxcroft School basketball team with power, skill, and heart, has been named to the first team of the Division I All-Delaney Athletic Conference squad for the 2010-11 season, Athletic director Michelle Woodruff announced Friday.

Andrews was one of 13 players awarded all-DAC honors by the division’s six coaches -- a remarkable feat considering that Foxcroft did not win a Division I game this season. This marks the second year in a row that Foxcroft has had a first team all-DAC selection. Terry Lynne Garvey, a member of the Class of 2010 and a freshman at Gettysburg College, earned the honor last season.

Andrews, a resident of Pacific, MO, led Foxcroft in scoring with 8.2 points per game, rebounding (7.9 rpg), and blocked shots (3.4 bpg). She led the conference in blocked shots. Over the last six games of the regular season – all against quality DAC Division opponents -- she averaged 14 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks.

Andrews saved her best effort for the playoffs, recording a rare triple-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 13 blocked shots in a first-round loss Tuesday to Wakefield School. That game, however, did not figure in the voting, which had already been completed.
