College Corner: Potomac Falls grad Heather Kiefer Named CAA softball Rookie of the Year

(May 8, 2012) - Potomac Falls High School grad Heather Kiefer, a freshman pitcher for James Madison University softball team, was recently named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Week. Then the big news came in: Kiefer was also named CAA Rookie of the Year and made First Team All-CAA.

 Kiefer garnered her third CAA Rookie of the Week accolade this season, after going 2-0with a 0.50 ERA in a pair of starts against Georgia State University who came into the weekend series tied for second place with JMU. The Dukes won two of three to improve to 26-24 overall and 12-5 in the CAA and take sole possession of second place and clinch an appearance in the CAA Softball Championships that begin May 9-11.

Kiefer was also previously named CAA Pitcher of the Week back on April2. For the season, Heather is 12-5 in the circle with a 1.80 ERA (ranked2nd in the CAA and 53rd in NCAA Div 1). Read More

College Corner: Fantastic Freshman! Stone Bridge Grad Emily Fredrikson Named Second Team All-CAA, Joins Freedom Grad Sam Scolarici on All-Rookie Team

(Nov. 2, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School grad Emily Fredrikson and Freedom High School grad Sam Scolarici have had fantastic women's soccer freshman seasons with Fredrikson being named to the All-CAA Second Team. Fredrickson, a defender at William and Mary, and Scolarici, a forward/midfielder at Hofstra, both named to the CAA All-Rookie Team.

Making an impressive debut this season, Fredrikson has helped The Tribe to a 15-2-2 record and No. 20 ranking. The Ashburn, Virginia native might not jump off the stat page, but on the field she makes quite the impression. Playing center back, Fredrikson helped the College post one of its finest defensive seasons in program history. W-M led the conference in almost every defensive category and ranked 17th in the country in goals-against average (0.617). Fredrikson was also a contributor offensively, tallying an assist in the Tribe's 2-0 win over Princeton.

The No. 20-ranked William and Mary Tribe women's soccer team will look to capture its 10th CAA title in program history this weekend when it hosts the Virginia 529 CAA Women's Soccer Championship. The Tribe will play the winner of the Delaware/Hofstra match at 7:30 p.m. on Friday,

Hofstra (10-7) begins play in the CAA Championship Thursday night as the fifth-seeded Pride take on #4 Delaware at 7:30 p.m.

Scolarici ranks third on the team in scoring with five goals and two assists, splitting time between forward and midfield.
