Ice Hockey: Battle of IceBurn? Rivals Briar Woods and Stone Bridge Collide in NVSHL Semifinal Tonight at Ashburn Ice House

(Feb. 27, 2013) - Move over Battle of the 'Burn ... we've got the Battle of IceBurn tonight as Ashburn rivals Briar Woods and Stone Bridge collide tonight in a Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League semifinal at 9:20 p.m. at the Ashburn Ice House east rink.

This is a dream match-up as it's a rematch of last year's finals -- won 7-3 by Stone Bridge for a second straight title and fifth all-time -- and a pairing of the league's two highest scoring teams with the two squads coming for a whopping 180 goals in just 23 contests. Heck, each team assaulted the nets for 11 goals in quarterfinal action Monday night.

And these two teams are rivals, part of the so-called "Battle of the Burn" any time one of the three Ashburn area high schools get together  in athletics.

In last year's finals, Stone Bridge to the air out of the contest early with a 6-0 lead. It was a contentious championship with a total of 63 penalty minutes doles out.

(March 30, 2012) – Hundreds of the best 11 and 12-year-old hockey players from across the country have been in Northern Virginia since Wednesday competing in the USA Hockey 12 & Under Tier II National Championships which run through Sunday, April 1, at the twin rink Ashburn Ice House and SkateQuest Reston facilities. Three local squads – the Ashburn Xtreme (host team), Reston Raiders and Montgomery (MD) Blue Devils – are among the 38 teams, representing 36 different states, in the five-day tournament.

News: McDonald's Hosting Winter Olympic Games Celebration at Ashburn Ice House Tonight

(Feb. 25, 2010) - Had enough of ice dancing? Well the McDonald's Family Restaurants of Greater Washington, D.C. is hosting a celebration of the Olympic Winter Games tonight at the Ashburn Ice House from 6 to 8 p.m.

The event will include a "Make the Goal" contest so younger kids can get their own taste of the Olympic games. And there will be free coupons, games, and samples of McDonald's new Sweet Chili Dipping Sauce.

Our only question: will there be a menu explanation to the loophole (parents: you will want to read this!) that allows you to purchase three 4-piece McNuggets for $3 when a 10-piece order costs more than $3! Two extra McNuggets for less money ... beat that!
