News: Suspect Tracked Down by K9 Unit After Pursuit and Crash in Leesburg Area

(April 4, 2013) - A 32-year-old Leesburg man is facing a host of charges including reckless driving, hit and run and DWI after he was tracked down by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit after a pursuit and crash in the Leesburg area around 2 a.m. this morning.


A vehicle was reported taken from a residence without permission of the owner. As deputies were responding to the call, it was learned members of the Leesburg Police Department were involved in a pursuit with the vehicle on the Route 7 Bypass.

The vehicle attempted to elude the pursuing officer and crashed in the area of King Street and Fairfax Street. The driver fled from the vehicle. The driver was located by a Sheriff'€™s Office K9 unit in the area of Catoctin Circle.

The driver, Scott N. Sanford, 32, of Leesburg, was charged by the Leesburg Police Department with reckless driving, hit and run, driving on a revoked license, eluding, and DWI. He was charged by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office with grand larceny.

Sanford remains held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
