News: Internet Safety is the Subject of April 10 LEAP Meeting

(April 4, 2013) - The Loudoun Education Alliance of Parents (LEAP) will present one of its most popular programs on Wednesday, April 10 as it tackles the subject of Internet Safety.


Deputy First Class James D. Spurlock of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit will present the program. Spurlock, a 21-year veteran law enforcement officer, has spent the past 12 years specializing in crime prevention topics. He has been featured in and written articles for numerous magazines both the U.S. and in Canada. Most recently, Spurlock was interviewed by “Internet Protocol with Tish” a web television series where he discussed internet safety.

Spurlock will detail ways in which the latest technology can be used and misused and the internet dangers every parent should know about.

The April 10 LEAP meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the School Board Meeting Room of the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court, Ashburn. LEAP is seeking nominations for its 2013-2014 officers. New officers will be elected at the May 8th meeting. A new president and treasurer must be elected for next year.

Founded in 1989, LEAP is a non-partisan network that promotes interaction between parents, teachers, School Board members and members of the LCPS administrative team. LEAP meetings provide a forum for the discussion and sharing of common educational concerns and ideas.
