Ashburn (April 18, 2013) – The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation (WRCF) and Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association are teaming up to fight childhood obesity by hosting a “Fuel Up to Play 60 Football Clinic” on Friday, April 19 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Redskins Indoor Training Facility in Ashburn, Va. The event is not open to the public.
Redskins players will teach students how to eat right and live a healthy lifestyle, in addition to hosting an exclusive football clinic. Redskins players will lead more than 100 Washington, D.C. metro area elementary and middle school students in various action packed fitness stations that include agility ladders, football drills and a Play 60 mini-combine obstacle course.
“It is important that our young Redskins fans realize the importance of nutrition and physical fitness,” said Redskins linebacker and Fuel Up to Play 60 team representative, Brian Orakpo. “Through special events such as the Fuel Up to Play 60 Football Clinic, the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and the NFL can come together to get children to understand the benefits of daily physical activity.”
Bev McKay from Millwood, Va., who operates Hazelwood Dairy Farm, will also be in attendance. He will talk to students about his farm, as well as the commitment and care that go into producing wholesome milk and other dairy foods as part of a nutrient-rich diet.
After completing the “Fuel Up to Play 60 Football Clinic,” students will receive a gift bag full of fun and educational items such as Fuel Up To Play 60 posters featuring Brian Orakpo, Redskins Read Activity Books, Redskins Play 60 door hangers and more.
The “Fuel Up to Play 60 Football Clinic” is part of the WRCF, Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association and the NFL’s campaign to combat childhood obesity. A youth-led program, Fuel Up to Play 60 empowers students to make changes at school that will help them stay active and fuel up with nutrient-rich foods such as low-fat and fat-free dairy products, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean protein foods.
Committed to ensuring the youngest burgundy and gold fans live healthy lifestyles, the WRCF hosts numerous fitness events and provide educational materials to help kids stay active for at least 60 minutes a day.
