Swim: Potomac Falls Grad Matt McLean Strikes Gold at London Olympics! Helps 4x200 Free Relay Take 1st

(July 31, 2012) - Potomac Falls High School grad Matt McLean struck gold in London today as part of the United States men's 4x200 freestyle relay team which took first place.

McLean swam the second leg in qualifying in the morning as the U.S. team went into the finals with the top seed after a 7:06.75 time. Charlie Houchin started off the Americans with a 1:48.22 followed by McLean's 1:46.68. Davis Tarwater (1:46.33) and Conor Dwyer (145.52) finished the effort.

McLean then watched in the finals as Michael Phelps made history with his 19th overall medal as the U.S. team blew away the field with a 6:59.70 time. Ryan Lochte started off the winning relay with a 1:45.15 followed by Dwyer (1:45.23), Ricky Berens (1:45.27) and then Phelps (1:44.05).
