(Feb. 27, 2012) - The Virginia High School League Redistricting and Reclassification committee approved today a request from Loudoun schools to be divided into two districts for the 2013-15 proposed plan.
The Dulles District would become a 7-team district with Champe (opening 2012), Dominion, Heritage, Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley, Park View and Woodgrove. A newly formed Potomac District would include current Cedar Run schools Broad Run and Freedom along with current Dulles schools Briar Woods, Potomac Falls and Tuscarora.
Stone Bridge in the revised plan remains in the Liberty District, the only school out of 13 Loudoun schools to not be in either the Dulles or Potomac districts.
"We are content to stay in the Liberty District for the next cycle," said Stone Bridge athletic director Dave Hembach. A move was considered to join the other Loudoun schools but the Stone Bridge administration felt the current situation and proposed plans to be "too iffy" and they had already made a firm commitment to the Liberty District where they have been playing since 2005.
Hembach pointed out that Stone Bridge maintains its rivalries with non-district contests against Loudoun schools in most sports.
