News: Loudoun County Sheriff's Advises Residents to Lock Vehicles and Remove High Dollar Items

(Jan. 24, 2013) - In response to numerous reports of larcenies from unlocked vehicles in the Broadlands, Brambleton and the Dulles South service areas, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office would like to remind residents to lock their vehicles and secure all valuables in a safe location or out of plain view from potential thieves.


In the majority of these cases, the vehicles were entered without any signs of force or physical damage and were believed to be left unlocked. Securing your property, to include closing garage doors to a residence, prevent the majority of these criminal incidents.

"Locking your vehicle and removing expensive items from plain view will reduce your chances of becoming the victim of this crime opportunity,"€ said Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman.

Residents are reminded to park in well lit areas or in a garage, to activate alarm systems or use anti-theft devices and immediately report any suspicious activity to the Loudoun Sheriff's Office by calling the 24-hour non-emergency line at (703) 777-1021.
