News: Loudoun County School Board Makes Changes to School Assignment Policies

(Jan. 28, 2013) - On Tuesday, January 22, the Loudoun County School Board revised one policy regarding school assignment (§8-20) and deleted another (§8-25). The revisions and deletion go into effect immediately, replacing the previous policies and practices. The following important changes should be noted by parents seeking special permission for their student to attend a school other than the one to which they are assigned. 

First, special permission requests for the 2012-13 school year are no longer being accepted. 

There are now two windows for those seeking special permission for the 2013-14 school year: 

• Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) employees may apply for special permission for their children between March 1 and May 15. 
• The general public may apply for special permissions between April 1 and May 15.
  

The Special Permission Request System is closed and will reopen on March 1, for LCPS employees, and on April 1, for the general public. 

Special permission requests will not be accepted after May 15. 

Decision letters from the Department of Pupil Services will be issued no later than June 15.
